Congrats to the participants of the Developmental Teams and Race Team’s first race of the season!
Snow Summit’s “D Team” had their first race January 30th, however their awards ceremony was postponed due to snow. The winners were announced today to an enthusiastic crowd on the Bear Bottom Lodge Deck.
The competition is divided up by age 6-7, 8-9, 10-11, 12-13, 14-16 and all participants receive a medal or ribbon.
The Developmental team teaches basic techniques of skiing to children from 7 to 16 years of age. This program is for low intermediate through advanced skilled skiers who are not ready for racing. The philosophy behind D-Team is not to push skiers into racing, but to give them the skills to compete competitively once they are ready to race.
Snow Summit Race team also had their first competition today. The Race Team offers a competitive ski racing programs designed to improve skiing technique, competitive attitudes, sportsmanship and work ethic. The race team has a a total training environment from mastery of skiing skills to Junior Olympic and FIS level competition. The are one of California’s top racing teams. This invitational only program invites children to practice and race at Snow Summit and at other races outside the Big Bear area. The Full-Time Race Program provides the 8-12 year old racer (J4-J5) five days of training and the 13-19 year old racer (J1-J3) six days of training with professional US Ski Association certified coaches. The mission of the Race Team is to promote the competitive spirit, healthy outdoor activity, teamwork, team spirit and pride of accomplishment- not only in the racers themselves, but in their parents and the entire community.
