Easy Drive Up the Mountain - 5:24am, 3/21/2015

SS BLOG-2 (1)

Expect sunny skies today as you make that easy drive up the mountain. If you left the house early, there’s less traffic and you might have caught the sunrise. All roads to Big Bear are open with no restrictions and the surface is freshly machine groomed.

Our Performance/Demo Ski and Board Sale starts today at 9 am. This is a great opportunity to upgrade your skis or snowboard for a fraction of the price. The Learning Center will be ready to show you a variety of used snowboards and skis. Prices on skis and snowboards start as low as $99.

Bring your March Madness Special and enjoy another day of fun in the sun. Remember to bring your sun block if a goggle tan is not a part of your spring look. The $99 from your March Madness Special will be applied towards any 2015/2016 winter season pass starting Monday the 23rd. Get your Screamin’ Deal on Season Passes, including the Cali4nia Pass.

More Spring Skiing and Riding Strategy- The Window - 5:17am, 3/19/2015

SS BLOG (1)

Photographers refer to the first and last hour of daylight as the “Golden Hour”.  Spring Skiers and Riders who have been around for a season or two know we have our equivalent- The Window. The Window is that period during the day when things soften up to a near perfect surface but have’t crossed over to late afternoon conditions. Timing is key and The Window may vary from day to day due to sun, temperature, cloud cover- but those who are on it know it’s worth catching. After The Window it’s usually off to the steeps for the rest of the afternoon or down to the deck at the Slopeside Pub to join the crew.

Here is a quick re-cap of the important dates we have recently released-

We will operate Snow Summit daily from 9 am to 3 pm through Sunday March 29th. Saturday the 21st lifts will spin until 4 pm.

Bear Mountain will operate daily from 9 am to 3 pm through April 5th. We hope to operate further into the Spring and will make an announcement regarding hours as we approach the 5th. Saturday the 21st lifts will spin until 4 pm.

The Snow Summit Mountain Bike Park will Open for the 2015 Season on May 8th. We will operate weekends (Fri, Sat & Sun) through June 19th when we will begin daily operation.

The last important date to take note of is the 23rd of this month. That is when our Screamin’ Deal Season Pass Sale starts. These will be the best Season Pass rates offered for the 2015/16 Winter Season. The rates at Hot Dawgz and Hand Rails will not be this low. Don’t miss out!

Spring Skiing and Riding Strategy - 4:27pm, 3/18/2015

There is a reason Spring skiing and riding holds such a mystique among our guests both young and old. Warm, sunny days and the chance to pull out some vintage ski wear and costumes (we have seen teletubbies, pokemon, cows and kangaroos just to name a few) add an extra air of fun and things take on a very social atmosphere. Afternoons on the deck with a beverage or two become the standard closer to a day of good times.

PM BLOG MARCH 18

When it comes to snow, Spring can be epic but it requires some attention to your equipment to get the most from the slopes. It is very important to have the “right wax” and texture on your board or skis. Wax is pretty simple- it helps the ski/board glide, in the Spring you glide on a film of water. The texture is very important because it guides the drops and film of water out from under your board avoiding suction being created. Remember, it is a combination of both wax and texture- one without the other is ineffective and will create a sticky ride. Our Performance Demo Center can wax and texture your board in no time. Stop in to see Kory and the boys- you will be amazed at the difference in your glide.
