There are 3 open roads to Big Bear. Hwy 38 thru Redlands, Hwy 18 the back way thru Lucerne Valley and Hwy 18 from Waterman thru Lake Arrowhead are open with no chains required. All vehicles must always carry chains when traveling to mountains during the winter months.
Yesterday’s 6-8 inches of fresh new powder was icing on the cake! We’re starting off the new year with excellent mid-winter conditions and perfectly groomed packed powder runs. Today is sunny with the high reaching 35 degrees. We recommend using Hwy 38 (through Redlands) or Hwy 18 (the back way through Lucerne Valley). Hwy 18 thru Lucerne Valley and Hwy 38 thru Redlands are open with NO CHAINS required. Hwy 330 is closed below Running Springs. There is a detour through Lake Arrowhead however this route is much longer and not recommended. All vehicles must always carry chains when traveling in the mountains during winter months.
3-5 inches of new snow blankets the slopes today making for super fun powder to machine groomed packed powder runs! Nearly every run is open at both resorts. Night session is every night through January 1st from 3:00pm to 9:30pm. Road Information: Hwy 330/18- Hwy 330 is closed below Running Springs until further notice however Hwy 18 via Waterman Ave thru Lake Arrowhead to the Arctic Circle is open to passenger vehicles only, chains required. This route is much longer and we recommend using alternate routes Hwy 38 thru Redlands or Hwy 18 thru Lucerne Valley.
