Winter Wonderland Returns

It’s a beautiful snowy day in the Big Bear Valley! With the recent storm that has passed through the area not only did we receive a few inches of fresh natural snow, but the cooler temperatures have opened the door for snowmaking to start. When the snow guns are on, the sounds of them pumping out that snowy goodness can be heard for miles from the resorts and is another sure sign that the winter season is just around the corner. At this time we still do not have an expected opening date and will continue to make snow at every opportunity.

Waiting on Colder Weather

We’ve got our snowmaking technicians on call and snow guns ready, now we just need a little cold weather so we can get going! All we need is 2-3 days of round-the-clock snowmaking and we can get enough coverage to open up for skiing and snowboarding for the 2013-14 winter season. The nights may be chilly and leave frost on cars but the days are still a little to warm to make snow. At this point if we were to fire up those snow guns most of our hard work would melt throughout the day, but don’t worry winter is just around the corner. We still remain hopeful to be open for Thanksgiving. Curious how we make snow? Read more here: http://www.snowsummit.com/ski/mountain-info/snowmaking-grooming/
