We’ve got our snowmaking technicians on call and snow guns ready, now we just need a little cold weather so we can get going! All we need is 2-3 days of round-the-clock snowmaking and we can get enough coverage to open up for skiing and snowboarding for the 2013-14 winter season. The nights may be chilly and leave frost on cars but the days are still a little to warm to make snow. At this point if we were to fire up those snow guns most of our hard work would melt throughout the day, but don’t worry winter is just around the corner. We still remain hopeful to be open for Thanksgiving. Curious how we make snow? Read more here: http://www.snowsummit.com/ski/mountain-info/snowmaking-grooming/
Snow Summit and Bear Mountain purchased over $500,000 in new snowmaking equipment for the 2010-2011 winter season. Today we unloaded a delivery of the latest technology snowmaking fan guns to make more quality snow at the earliest date possible. Each resort’s snowmaking system can convert about 5,000 to 6,000 gallons of water per minute into snow, which is a stream flow that would fill up a back yard pool in just 5 minutes! Traditionally our target opening day is the Thanksgiving holiday, weather permitting. Our crews are preparing for the cold weather and setting up the new fan guns. We’ll let you know as soon as we charge up the lines! Learn more about snowmaking.
